Play therapy
Play is the first language of children. As words are to adults, toys are to kids. Utilizing play in a therapeutic context allows for children to fully express themselves in a way that is not possible with words. Play allows children to both consciously and subconsciously project their worlds, fears, anxieties, and losses onto toys.
Tänne helps children to better understand these worlds and gain better control over them. Tänne’s training in play therapy allows her to recognize themes and symbols in children’s play so that treatment can be best guided to the root issues. Tänne incorporates both non-directive child led, and directive play in her sessions. Sessions include educational components as well as times for free expression. Play therapy is recommended for children ages 2-13. Play therapy appointments run between 30 and 55 minutes depending on the child.
Expressive therapies
Tänne is trained to use art, sand, movement and music therapies in her work with clients. Any art or expressive therapy requires both hemispheres of the brain to work together, which allows for better emotional and mental integration of the client’s world. Tänne creates a soothing, non-judgemental space for people to express themselves through various mediums. Tänne offers sand tray therapy to her clients—a specialized therapy in which clients create scenes in a sandbox with various miniatures the therapist supplies. Expressive therapies can be utilized with any population.
Adolescent therapy
The adolescent years are fundamental years for teens to develop their sense of self and identify. Adolescence often comes with a unique set of challenges that can impact not only the individual teen, but the functioning of the whole family. Tänne works with adolescents to help navigate the challenges they may be facing including (but not limited to) relationship issues, peer conflict, self-esteem problems, risky behaviors, grief, trauma, social isolation and life transitions. Tänne works with teens in ways that feel comfortable to them. Tänne utilizes talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, and various expressive therapies.
Parenting Support & Parent Coaching
Parenting is hard! At some point we all second guess ourselves as parents. Parent support and coaching sessions allow caregivers work on skill building, problem processing and implementing techniques that can help to strengthen a caregiver’s relationship with his/her/their child. Parenting sessions involve the use of research-based interventions that Tänne will help modify to best apply to each unique situation. These sessions can be done as supplemental to a child’s therapy with Tänne, or by as a stand alone service.
